Purpose

Time Spent On Bug Fixing shows the percentage of time spent on fixing the bugs over a total time spent on a projecthow much time in % of all logged time a team spends on defects fixing.

How metric helps

Time Spent On Bug Fixing helps to monitor the effort is and optimize efforts spent on fixing defects vs. a total efforts reported on a project. Suggested acceptable indicator value is <20%. . It is suggested to spend < 20 % of all time on fixing defects.

Calculation

Time Spent On Bug Fixing = (time logged into bugs for last 90 days defects / time logged into all issues for last 90 daysall logged time) *100. 

RAG thresholds:  Red - metric value > 20; Green - metric value = < 20.

1 Calculation considers created items within the last 90 days.

2 Defect is an item of a type set in Project Configuration > Data Sources > Task Tracking System> Scope Management > Definition of Work Buckets > Defects.

Data Source

Data for the metric can be collected from a task tracking system (Jira, TFS, Rally, etc.).
