Purpose

Time Spent On Bug Fixing shows how much time in % of all logged time a team spends on defects fixing.

How metric helps

Time Spent On Bug Fixing helps to monitor and optimize efforts spent on fixing defects. It is suggested to spend < 20 % of all time on fixing defects.

How metric works

Chart overview

Chart shows a percentage of time spent on fixing defects - number in the center. Target value is is above the chart.  


By click on a chart a pop up appears with the following information got from the task tracking system: 

  • Issue ID
  • Type
  • Priority
  • Summary

Calculation

Time Spent On Bug Fixing = (time logged for defects / all logged time) *100. 

RAG thresholds:  Red - metric value > 20; Green - metric value = < 20. 

Assumptions

1 Calculation considers created items within the last 90 days.

2 Defect is an item of a type set in Project Configuration > Data Sources > Task Tracking System> Quality Management > Issue/Work Item type used for defects tracking.


Data Source

Data for the metric can be collected from a task tracking system (Jira, TFS, Rally, etc.).
